The unrecognised Bedouin village of Wadi al-Naam near Beersheva. Although it is illegal for the 3,000 inhabitants of Wadi al-Naam to be supplied with electricity, the state has built a major electricity generating power station in the middle of the village. It has also sited a chemical waste dump, Ramat Hovav, on their doorstep. In 2004 a survey showed a dramatic increase in cancer rates among Jews living within a 20km radius of Ramat Hovav; the Bedouin of Wadi al-Naam, who live 2km from the site, were not included in the survey (July 2004)
