Some of the stone houses of Lifta in the early evening light. Lifta was one of the earliest Palestinian villages to be depopulated, after repeat attacks from Jewish militias starting in December 1947. By early February 1948 its 2,500 inhabitants had either fled or been expelled. (April 2003)
